We would like to begin by acknowledging the Darug and Gundungurra people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we plan to gather on, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We also extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today, and celebrate their enduring connections to the Country.
You are invited to come together over these few days to contribute and play a part in the combination of two forces, the education of natural building, and growth through party and community.
We are preparing to gather in the beautiful landscape of the blue mountains to build community and develop shared space, to dance and enjoy music, to explore and feel the earth, and to grow within ourselves as well as others.
The time in this space is focused on equipping new coming land careers with an introduction to a variety of natural building skills, which help us to coexist and grow with the Earth instead of dominating our environment.
During this gathering we intend to begin the construction of a bush kitchen that will be used by the community who built it during future events. you're invited to join the group in guided construction using natural building methods such as cob and wattle & daub. There will also be some recycled/natural timber elements added to the build providing the opportunity to learn some basic carpentry skills.
Leading our build team is the rare and only, DirtyEarl. With years of experience in natural building, she finds herself, along with Nugget (her dog) and Chili bean (a three legged cat) traveling across Australia to achieve impressive natural building projects. alongside will be instructors to help facilitate practical as well as theory classes throughout the days of the event.
Over the course of the event we will be getting our hands dirty with
practical projects including:
= Cob talk & cob stomping demonstration: followed by hands on session
= Wattle & Daub demonstration: followed by hands on session
=Base coat earth render and sculpture demonstration: followed by hands on session
Class - without the hands on:
= Introduction to permaculture
=Introduction to natural building
= Natural finishes with clay & lime
= Why earthen materials?
= Earthships and other alternative structures
= Discussion on using stone foundations and bush polls
As each evening rolls into dusk, workshops finish and practical projects halt for the day. You are offered to gather in community and cook within the communal space, and join by the fire as the music begins to twist into the night.
There will be a variety of well known local acts performing throughout the event including live performances through to psytrance, drum n bass, forest, and a mix-bag in between.
As this gathering is a balance of learning as well as fun, rather than over indulging in substance this weekend you’re asked that you rather take what you deem necessary to be present and involved happily and comfortably with-in the community.
( ~ Choose your own adventure, just don’t write yourself off ~ )
Start your morning with some yoga or a sleep in, followed by a swim in the dam. You're welcomed to the community space again to make breakfast followed by an optional morning stretching session with the group. At this point you are free to spend the day as you please around the event space, or join in the bush-classroom / workshop space.
Natural building theory and practical classes will run over the event days however to echo, these classes are optional, but you are encouraged to join and learn what you can from the experience.
You are encouraged to listen to your body and care for it how you need over the time of the weekend.
This hands on community driven event offers access and opportunity to a handful of skills to learn which will help prepare us to work with the natural environment and the recorsess around us when the time comes that we have access to our own “space”.
Don't forget your notebook!
